Special to Reflector-Chronicle
Four Dickinson County barrel racers are set to compete in the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo July 31 through Aug. 3.
The Bankes Barrel Racers were selected following National Barrel Horse Association races Saturday at the Grandstand in Eisenhower Park.
The Bankes team, now sponsored by AuBurn Pharmacies, is composed of four amateur barrel racers. The PRCA and WPRA allow the races to compete as amateurs without professional membership.
The top four qualifiers from Saturday, June 29 and one alternate will compete in the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo’s barrel racing competition.
The qualifiers are Kylie Bryant, Afton Snider, De De Lorson, Sarah Johnson and alternate Macy Elliott.
Bryant rode her horse Mickey through the pattern in 15.586 seconds and did a second pattern on Yeller in 15.676 seconds. She will compete on the final night of the rodeo on Saturday.
Snider rounded the barrels in 16.163 second on Jill. She will compete on Friday.
Lorson did the cloverleaf in 16.235 second on Boogie. She will ride on Thursday.
Johnson and Jetamiah’s Design completed the barrel race in 16.256 second. Johnson will complete on Wednesday night.
Macy Elliott rode Belle around the barrels in 16.441 seconds.
Though the racers are competing against the pros they are not allowed to win prizes because they are not members of the PRCA or WPRA.
However, should any of them post a time which could win a prize, AuBurn Pharmacies will pay her what the racer would have won.
