Name of staff member: Megan Lady
Position in USD #435: Special Education teacher at McKinley Intermediate
Years in this position: One
Previous teaching experience: This is my ninth year of teaching elementary special education. I taught for two years in Wichita and six years in Topeka before moving to Abilene. My husband, Josh Lady, is from this area and we knew that we wanted to move back while our children were young and raise them here.
What inspired you to go into education? I have always loved working with children and grew up in a family where both of my parents were educators. Itís energizing to work with kids who may learn differently because Iím needing to think of different ways to present information and different resources to help them grasp concepts. I like the relationships that can be built when working one on one or with a small group of students.
A memorable teaching moment: My first year of teaching I was working with a student who was learning to read. At that moment when it clicked he literally grabbed the book out of my hands and jumped out of his chair he was so excited. I promised myself I would always remember that moment, especially on difficult days and when I question whether or not what Iím doing is helping the students make enough progress.
Education: Bachelorís in Elementary Education and Special Education from Tabor College, and a Masterís in Special Education from Washburn University.
