HERINGTON –– Steve Lewis, Sr. 67, of Herington, died Saturday, June 22, 2013, at the St. Francis Medical Center, Topeka. He was born March 18, 1946, at Brownie, Ark., the son of Otis and Mary L. (Sullivan) Lewis.
Mr. Lewis retired in 2006, as Railroad Section Forman, for the Union Pacific Railroad.
He married Elvira R “Chepa” Corona on Feb.19, 1966, at Herington; she survives of the home. He is survived by a son Stephen Lewis, Jr., and two daughters: Stephanie Lewis and Sammi Peterson of Topeka. He is also survived by two sisters: Glenda Backes of Colorado, and Charlene Bell of Arkansas; three brothers: David Lewis of Colorado, Tony Lewis of Germany,and Tom Lewis of Arkansas; and five grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his sister Otisteen Wrinkle, brother Jerry Lewis, sister-in-law Rebecca Lewis, brother-in-law Frank Bell, and his parents.
A Celebration of Life visitation for family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel; and a reception will follow at the American Legion, Lake of Herington.
