Special to the Reflector-Chronicle
Demolition in the old portion of Memorial Hospital has begun in preparation for remodeling efforts. The old portion was built in 1922 and contained additions from 1960 and 1992. It will be remodeled into space for Heartland Health Care Clinic, MHS Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, Health Information Management, Comprehensive Pain Solutions, and administrative offices. Shown above is the former registration desk in Memorial Hospitalís former outpatient area. The next step in the process will be obtaining bids for mechanical, electrical and plumbing work. When that is complete, the old portion will be gutted and then remodeled to accommodate departments moving into the area.
Kent Knott, Alberici Constructors Job Superintendent for the Memorial Health System construction project, says the process of remodeling and moving the departments can be similar to a chess game. He is thankful that it can be done without being in the way of Memorial Hospital and clinic patients. Patient safety can be a concern with projects such as this, he said, but having the patients areas in the new building has eliminated those risks.
