The Abilene Public Schools Board of Education approved a number of personnel changes during the month of May.

Several new teachers were hired during a special meeting Wednesday, including Nicole Demars, Kennedy Booster Kindergarten teacher; Laura Ediger, Kennedy Kindergarten teacher; Kelly Hoover, Kennedy Title I reading teacher; and Nikole Cain, Abilene High School ag teacher starting in January 2020.

Also hired was Melissa Dannefer, 8th grade girls assistant basketball coach and Alora Ritter, Eisenhower Elementary After School program aide.

Jenny Wilkins resigned from the ABC After School program.

Resignations were accepted from Stacy Smiley, Kennedy Title I reading teacher and from Lynsey Webb, Kennedy Kindergarten teacher during a May 22 special meeting.

During the May 13 regular Board of Education meeting, the board accepted resignations from Mya Gray, Parents as Teachers educator and Melissa Thorsell, Booster Kindergarten teacher.

A number of coaching positions were approved: Molly Burton, eighth grade girls head basketball coach; Dan Rheingans, seventh grade boys head basketball coach; Troy Palenske, eighth grade boys assistant basketball coach, and Kyle Taylor, transfer from eighth grade boys assistant basketball coach to Abilene High School assistant boys basketball coach.

Several employments were approved: Jeremiah Schmitz, Abilene Middle School evening custodian; Jamie Paulson, McKinley Elementary custodian; Judy Jones, food service substitute; and Ryan Longenecker, Brenna Riffel and Makenna McGivney, summer maintenance help.
