105th birthday

Sen. Randall Hardy presents Miriam Irwin a Senate Tribute and birthday wishes from Kan. Gov. Jeff Colyer and Lt. Gov. Tracy Mann at her party at Abilene Place Thursday.

For the second year in a row, state Sen. Randall Hardy presented Miriam Irwin a Senate Tribute and birthday greetings from the Kansas governor.

Irwin was born in Woodbine on Aug. 23, 1913, making Thursday her 105th birthday party at Abilene Place.

“Birthday’s provide opportunities to reflect on the past and plan new goals for the coming year as you celebrate this special occasion,” Hardy said, reading from Gov. Jeff Colyer’s letter.

“You have my best wished for a memorable day and a future full of good health and happiness. I am proud to be able to serve individuals such as you as the governor of Kansas. You are an excellent example of the strength and character of a Kansas citizen. May many blessings be yours as you continue to enjoy a joyful life.”

“I hope you have a great birthday and I got you on my calendar for next year,” Hardy told Irwin.

Hardy presented Irwin a letter from Kan. Gov. Sam Brownback a year ago when Irwin celebrated her 104th birthday.
