Great Plains Theatre is re-launching its cinema under the new name Great Plains 5 Star Cinema and the new launch will be a special showing of some cowboy classics set in Abilene over the Chisholm Trails days.

Friday will feature the John Wayne classic cowboy film Red River at 7 p.m. followed by the Randolph Scott film Abilene Town.

The admission for this special showing is only $5 for Red River and Abilene Town will be shown for free with purchase of the Red River ticket.

The Saturday, Sunday and Monday schedule “Chisholm Trail Days” schedule will be Red River at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. every day followed by Abilene Town. Another exciting new addition to your cinema experience will be optional butter on the popcorn.

Red River stars John Wayne, Montgomery Clift and Walter Brennan and follows one of the first cattle drives to go from Texas to Abilene.

Abilene Town stars Randolph Scott, Edgar Buchanan and Lloyd Bridges.

The story was adapted from Ernest Haycox’s book Trail Town and follows the town of Abilene immediately following the Civil War.
